MBTI Type Alignment

But since the core framework I use for all of that is MBTI/Jungian type preferences, type alignment coaching it is!

MBTI/Jungian personality type is a theory of mind that provides a map to your innate gifts and energy flows. It’s based on Carl Jung’s observations from his therapy practice, first published in English a century ago as Personality Types, and expanded, codified, tested, and refined since the publication of the MBTI instrument in the 1940s. I have personally found it an incredibly useful framework for understanding how I learn and make decisions, and how that diverges from what other people are doing. When used well, this approach to differing personality types builds bridges of understanding, empathy, compassion, and better communication between people…and, often, within your own self, as well.

Your type preference is a pattern of cognitive function use. It is not predictive of success or failure in any given area of life. It is not meant to put you in a box or limit you to a stereotype. It should not be used as an excuse for bad behavior or for avoiding growth and change.

Your type preference IS useful for strategizing how to achieve what you want by using your gifts. It can tell you how best to get somewhere, not where to go!

I have been familiar with type for over twenty years, and working with it in a deeper way to guide my own journey of introspection, healing, and becoming for nearly ten years. I have studied with Personality Hacker, the Sumiloff Academy for Human Integration, and Dr. Dario Nardi, my dear friend and direct mentor in type and INTJ-ness. In April 2023 I was honored to present professionally on type for the first time at the BAPT Annual Online Conference, and certainly hope to continue presenting in such contexts!

I love teaching type, I love putting information into action, and I love putting my pattern-recognition and problem-solving skills to use with my clients. Together we work to pull apart their challenges into attainable goals.

This is what coaching with me looks like. Don’t be fooled by my INTJ type preferences; I bring the lolz.

Your type preferences are related to your:

  • physical and mental energy
  • flow states
  • decision-making process
  • communication style
  • relationship to goals and motivation
  • personal values
  • interests and identity
  • learning style
  • emotional processing
  • interoceptive/exteroceptive awareness
  • orientation to community, authority, and autonomy
  • and more!

I can help you understand what it means to have your particular type preference in relation to any/all of the above, and your particular life circumstances. We can evaluate the structure of your life for how well it meets the needs of your type.

I can help you separate out damage/conditioned behaviors/coping mechanisms from your authentic energy flows and inclinations.

I can help you test the hypothesis of your type results from an online test or type profiling session if you are in confusion.

I can teach you how to use your type preference for inner parenting – locating the fearful, angry, hurt, and lonely “child self” parts and providing them the mature guidance of your better developed “adult self” parts without harshness or self-judgment.

I can help you understand the people in your life better based on how your type preferences line up with theirs.

If any of that sounds like the kind of support you’re looking for, set up an exploration call with me!
